Kindergarten artists are learning how to use art supplies and over the past few weeks we have experimented with glue. We have used glue sponges, made glue dots, and drawn lines with glue. Finally we created "rainbow fish" with glue and oil pastels. You can look at all the "rainbow fish" on our Artsonia online art gallery. Kindergarten artists started a study on self-portraits today. After discussing how we are each uniquely made by God and looking at self-portraits by Vincent Van Gogh, students used mirrors to carefully observe their own facial features. These two artists enjoyed comparing their eyes, skin, hair, and smiles. For more on this lesson click on the Lesson tab and the Self Portrait icon.
Over the past few weeks Kindergarten artists have learned about artist and author Eric Carle, ladybugs, and explored collage making. I love how their ladybugs turned out. For more information on this project click on the Lessons tab and the Ladybug icon. You can view our Ladybug Artsonia Online Museum by clicking on the button below.
Kindergarten artists learned about author and illustrator Marcus Pfizer. They used glue and oil pastels on black construction paper to created their own Rainbow Fish. To find out more about this lesson click on the Lesson Binders tab (located above) and Glue, Glue, and more Glue.
Kindergarten students are studying wildlife artist Guy Coheleach. You can check out his artwork by clicking the link below. Students are creating their own Florida wildlife booklets. They have learned how to draw an owl, a frog, and a turtle so far.
Kindergarten read the Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle and learned about ladybugs. They cut, glued, painted, and used sharpies to create these amazing ladybugs. Fourth grader's finished their watercolor birds. I love how these turned out. Every year the kindergarten class creates beautiful fish pictures. Before we start our project we talk about Matthew 4:19, “And He (Jesus) said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
I asked them, “What do you think that means? Do you think Jesus was telling them, if you follow me you will be able to go out to the beach, cast your lines in the sea, and reel in a man on a hook?” One of the kindergarten students replied right away, “Well that’s just silly. They would need nets to catch men!” |
